Acai berries are very much in the forefront of marketing material to do with healthy eating. There are many websites claiming that the berries and extracts of them have massive health benefits.
There are antioxidant properties but not such a high percentage as blueberries and some other fruits and there is no scientific evidence to show that antioxidants in this specific form are beneficial to the body anyway.
There has been a lot of research done on the acai berries and health claims that have been made about them. It has been found that they have no effect on weight despite being sold as a weight loss aid. It is therefore worth having a good look at all of the evidence before taking acai as a supplement.
There have been many studies done using it and its nutritional value may be less than that of some other products. However, there is no taking away from it t hat it does make a very pleasant and refreshing drink and also as an ice-cream flavour in some countries.
Therefore, do not let the negative hype put you off enjoying the fruit for its flavour but do not expect it to have magical health benefits. Eaten as part of a healthy balanced diet or in place of an unhealthy drink or snack then it will certainly improve health but it may not aid slimming or cure disease.
The best way to find out for yourself whether the acai berry is beneficial is to try it out for yourself. Despite research showing it does not have the fantastic properties that some claim, it has certainly not been proven to be unhealthy by any stretch of the imagination so you may find that it works for you, so why not give it a try.
